Alice in Wonderland as is a story about a curious girl who journeys through experiences, learning her identity, her desires, and how can she as an individual can change the world. The projects was planned for WIZO (Women’s International Zionist Organization) & The Institute for Democratic Education, in collaboration with Tal Lerner.

The story of Alice inspired me while planning this project – a prototype for a kindergarten yard for children between the ages of two and four. Three primary educational values were included in the design:

  • Alice’s connection to Nature – Studies have shown that the more connected children are to nature, through a variety of outdoor experiences, the more they develop intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually.

  • Choice – Choice is a key element in Alice’s story. Having a variety of activities to choose from is a crucial element in developing a child’s sense of independence, confidence and self-reliance.

  • Influence – Alice’s actions influence her size and how she perceives the house and her surroundings. Influencing surroundings through gameplay is vital for children for obtaining a feeling of confidence and competence, as well as acquiring planning skills.
